Tribute to our Visionary Founders

Shri M. A. Venkatarama Chettiar
Shri Athi Krishna Chettiar

Founded in 1916 in the town of Karur, Karur Vysya Bank has grown over the past 110 years into one of India’s respected banking institutions. The Bank was established through the foresight and determination of Shri M. A. Venkatarama Chettiar and Shri Athi Krishna Chettiar, who came together with a shared vision to support farmers and traders affected by the economic challenges following the First World War.

With an initial capital of 1 Lakh, raised largely through personal guarantees to investors, the founders laid a strong foundation built on trust, integrity and responsibility. Through the adoption of progressive provisions in the Articles of Association, the institution established a strong foundation for ethical banking and social accountability, setting a precedent for practices that later became more common within the banking sector.

Over the decades, this commitment to customer-centricity, integrity and community development has shaped the Bank’s journey. From our humble beginnings in Karur to becoming a pan-India banking institution, Karur Vysya Bank today serves more than 10 Mn customers with a wide range of tailored financial products and services.

As we continue to evolve in a dynamic financial landscape, we remain firmly rooted in the values our founders envisioned. Their legacy continues to inspire us as we pursue sustainable growth and contribute meaningfully to India’s economic progress.

We implement a structured framework to identify, assess, monitor and manage risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with the Bank's strategic objectives. This approach strengthens the Bank's resilience, protects stakeholder interests and supports its ability to respond effectively to changing economic conditions.

Sustainability is integrated into our decision-making through a comprehensive Materiality Assessment process. This process helps us prioritize key Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics that are most significant to stakeholders and the business, ensuring they align with our strategic objectives. By focusing on the areas with the greatest impact, we enhance long-term resilience, generate meaningful value and promote responsible growth.

Stakeholder perspectives remained central to our sustainability approach in FY 2025-26. Through consistent engagement with customers, employees, investors, regulators, communities and other key stakeholders, we identified the ESG issues most relevant to both our business and stakeholders. These discussions informed our strategic choices, enhanced our ability to respond to emerging concerns and fostered long-term, value-based growth.
